CSS NEUSE

An ironclad ram built by Confederacy in 1864 and later scuttled to prevent capture at the end of the war. My most detailed ironclad in this series. Other models did not require this level of detail.

CSS_Neuse.png

USS CAIRO

One of the first ironclads built by the Union. She was sunk by a mine in 1862. Her remains are at the Vicksburg National Military Park. I used the wreck as the primary reference when modeling.

CSS MANASSAS

Originally the icebreaker named Enoch Train, she was converted into an ironclad ram by the C.S.A. in 1861. I managed to track down the actual blueprint for the hull of the Enoch Train. For the top, I had to take some artistic liberty, since there is no agreement as to what the ship actually looked like.

USS CHICKASAW

A Milwaukee-class river monitor built by the Union in 1864. She survived the war and had a long career in various roles before sinking in the 1950s on the Mississippi River. Probably the least depressing fate of all the ironclads.

CSS TENNESSEE

An ironclad ram built by the C.S.A. in 1863. Captured in 1864 by the Union at the Battle of Mobile Bay and sold for scrap in 1867. Not a lot to say about this model. It was pretty average.

CSS_Tennesse.png

CSS JACKSON

A casemate ironclad built by the C.S.A. in 1864. Was burned by Union in 1865 before being completed. Unlike most ironclads, there were photos of it which made designing it much easier.

H.L. HUNLEY

The first submarine in history to sink an enemy vessel. Built by the Confederacy, it sank during it’s first and only mission in 1864. I used a lot of images of the recovered wreck in order to get the details.

CSS_Hunley.png

USS ALLIGATOR

A submarine built by the Union in 1862 but sank in 1863 before ever seeing combat. It ended the Union submarine program. A lack of primary sources forced me to use modern reconstructions for the design.

USS_Alligator.png

PIONEER

A predecessor to the H.L. Hunley built in 1862. Never saw any combat and was later scuttled. It was later salvaged and sold for scrap. I used blueprints and a life-size replica as the basis of the design.

CSS_Pioneer.png

CSS ALABAMA

A commerce raider built by the Confederacy in 1862 and sunk in 1864 at the battle of Cherbourg. Sails and rigging were to be done with string and cloth instead of 3D printing them to save on cost.

BROOKES RIFLED CANNON

Not a ship, but I had fun making this. It is just a civil war era cannon that would have been used at a fort.
